The Beaver Institute™ conducted the first comprehensive Municipal Beaver Management study based upon 19 years of Beaver Program data from the town of Billerica, MA. Published by the Association of Massachusetts Wetland Scientists it compares the use of nonlethal beaver controls to beaver removal, and conclusively demonstrates that nonlethal control where feasible is preferable.
The Beaver Institute™ is interested in hearing from you regarding any beaver-related scientific research or management project study you are interested in pursuing. We desire to provide financial and/or technical assistance to researchers and others interested in advancing the scientific understanding and progressive management of beavers.
More BI Beaver Research Partnership Projects: Ohio – Study on the water quality benefits of beaver dams and beaver dam analogs on agricultural runoff. Oregon – Facilitating salmonid passage where flow devices are used to control beaver damming behavior (proposed), Maryland – Promoting progressive beaver management to cost-effectively improve water quality inflow to Chesapeake Bay with Ecotone Inc. (proposed).
Please contact us with your research ideas so we can discuss how to best help you achieve your project goals.
